Bio

As Director - Sponsorship Marketing and Promotions for Reliant and its parent company, NRG Energy, Tom Hughes is responsible for managing NRG/Reliant’s sponsorship portfolio strategy and leading the implementation of integrated sponsorship and promotions strategies that support NRG & Reliant’s marketing and business objectives. He oversees the company’s sponsorships including Reliant Stadium naming rights along with multiple sponsorships across the MLB, NBA and NFL.


Prior to joining Reliant in 2010, Hughes spent 15 years with AT&T, where he held a variety of leadership positions in sales, product management, marketing, advertising and sponsorships. Prior to his current role, he managed AT&T’s global sponsorship portfolio strategy and led the development of multiple award winning activation programs for some of the company’s premier partnerships including sponsorships in Formula One, NASCAR, PGA, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL and MLS.


Hughes is also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Sponsorships and is an Advisory Board Member for the Sports Sponsorship & Sales program at Baylor University. He is a graduate of Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in Justice Systems. He also holds a Master in Business Administration from Webster University in St. Louis. He currently resides in Houston, Texas with his wife, Kelly and their three children, Molly (8), Lucy (7) and Tag (4).
